Oppo Reno 14 Pro First Impressions
By Admin / 03/07/2025
Oppo’s Reno series has earned a reputation for stylish design and solid performance at attractive price points. The newly launched Oppo Reno 14 Pro aims to further elevate that legacy by bringing flagship-level features—high-res cameras, powerful internals, fast charging, and wireless charging—into the mid-premium segment. I’ve spent time with the device, and here’s a detailed look at everything you need to know.
Pricing & Variants
In India, the Reno 14 Pro starts at ₹39,999 for the base variant (8GB RAM + 256GB storage). A higher-end option (12GB RAM + 512GB storage) is expected to be available soon for around ₹44,999, though final pricing may vary across markets.
Available Colors
- Pearl White
- Titanium Grey
- Aurora Glaze (glowing ring effect)
I tested the Titanium Grey model—its understated matte finish with a reflective camera ring immediately catches the eye.
Design & Build
Oppo has refined its signature “Iridescent Glow” design. From certain angles, the camera island’s ring subtly lights up—a classy nod to premium grade. The flat-edge frame, slim profile, and matte glass back set it apart from earlier Reno models. Despite housing a sizable 6,200 mAh battery, the phone weighs 201 g and measures just 7.48 mm thick—among the slimmest in its category.
Gripping the phone feels satisfying: rounded edges, well-balanced weight distribution, and a responsive in-display fingerprint scanner. The only minor inconvenience? The volume rocker sits slightly high for smaller hands, but it’s a small trade-off for overall ergonomics.
For ruggedness, it features Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on the front and boasts IP66/IP68/IP69 water, dust, and high-pressure resistance—making it one of the most durable devices in its class.
Display
The Reno 14 Pro sports a massive 6.83‑inch AMOLED panel with a sharp 1272 × 2800 (1.5K) resolution and full DCI-P3 color gamut. Colours pop, blacks are deep, and viewing angles are wide—ideal for multimedia, gaming, and creative work.
Performance-wise, the screen supports adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate and 240 Hz touch sampling, delivering silky smooth scrolling and responsive tap gestures. While Oppo doesn’t enable variable refresh like ProMotion, the 120 Hz experience remains fluid and lag-free.
Outdoors visibility is excellent thanks to its claimed 1,200 nits peak brightness. Combined with Gorilla Glass protection and features like splash and glove touch, it’s built for real-world usability in all conditions.
Cameras
Rear Camera Array
- 50 MP main (OV50E) with OIS
- 50 MP periscope telephoto with OIS (3.5× optical zoom)
- 50 MP ultra-wide with autofocus
- 50 MP depth/bokeh sensor
Having four 50 MP sensors—especially the periscope—is rare in this price range. The main lens delivers sharp daylight shots with nice dynamic range, while the periscope zoom offers clear images even when cropping from afar. Ultra-wide keeps distortion to a minimum, and the extra sensor helps produce creamy portrait effects.
Front Camera
The 50 MP selfie cam with autofocus is standout—capturing detailed, natural-looking photos in most lighting. In low light, AI-driven algorithms brighten shadows without washing out features.
AI Tools
Oppo packs the Reno 14 Pro with intelligent features:
- AI Flash Photography to balance shadow and highlight
- LivePhoto 2.0 to add motion in a single shot
- AI Editor 2.0, on-device editing tools for users to tweak compositions and apply creative filters
These additions simplify post-processing and empower users to capture compelling visuals without third-party apps.
Performance & Software
Under the hood is the efficient MediaTek Dimensity 8450 (4 nm). Its CPU and GPU performance rival many 2024 flagship chips, delivering smooth multitasking, gaming, and faster app launches. I played graphically demanding titles like BGMI and Asphalt 9 with no frame drops or throttling—a testament to the chip’s prowess and Oppo’s thermal design.
The phone runs ColorOS 14 based on Android 15, offering a polished interface with features like Floating Window, customizable always-on display, and privacy-enhanced UI. Oppo commits to three major Android updates and four years of security patches, which is solid for this tier.
Battery & Charging
The 6,200 mAh battery is a highlight—providing two full days of light use or a day and a half for power users. It consistently lasted me through heavy gaming, HD video streaming, and office hours with power to spare.
On the charging front, you get 80 W SuperVOOC wired and 50 W AirVOOC wireless charging—rare for this price range. In my tests, wired charging went from 0–100% in about 45 minutes, and wireless charging was nearly as fast, topping up to 70% in under 30 minutes.
What’s Missing?
- No headphone jack—wired users will need USB-C or wireless options.
- Reverse wireless charging isn’t supported, which some competitors offer.
- Stereo sound could be richer; audio is decent but not immersive.
First Impressions Summary
- ✅ Premium design, slim yet robust
- ✅ Stunning AMOLED screen with high refresh and brightness
- ✅ Quad 50 MP cameras, including periscope zoom
- ✅ Powerful Dimensity 8450 chipset
- ✅ Massive battery + dual fast wired/wireless charging
Early Verdict
The Oppo Reno 14 Pro strikes a compelling balance: premium build, powerhouse hardware, standout cameras, and future-ready power features—all under ₹45k. Its biggest strengths are battery life, charging speed, and zoom capabilities. If you want flagship-level perks without spending flagship money, this deserves serious consideration.
